Jump to RecipeGolden Milk is also known as “turmeric latte”, referring to the combination of milk and spices such as turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper. This comforting drink has deep roots in traditional medicine and has long been used to promote overall health and reduce inflammation. In this regard, Golden Milk is particularly beneficial for those suffering from arthritis, joint pain, or muscle soreness. Additionally, turmeric and ginger act as immune system boosters, providing protection from infections and supporting the body’s natural defenses. Finally, this plant-based drink is also beneficial for digestion, relieving bloating and reducing nausea.
Turmeric latte has its origins in Ayurvedic medicine, which considers turmeric a sacred and healing spice with significant medicinal properties. Golden Milk was traditionally consumed before bedtime to support relaxation and calmness. Moreover, this drink was used for treating colds and chronic conditions such as arthritis and digestive disorders. Recently, Golden Milk has gained popularity in Western countries due to numerous wellness trends and the growing renown of turmeric.
Before storing the Golden Milk, let it cool down to room temperature, then pour it into an airtight container, such as a glass jar or sealed bottle. This drink can stay in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. When ready to enjoy, reheat it on the stove over low heat or in the microwave. Be sure to stir well to evenly distribute the spices and avoid boiling to prevent altering the flavor and texture of the beverage.
Ingredients for Golden Milk

- Turmeric: this is the primary ingredient that gives Golden Milk its characteristic vibrant yellow color. Turmeric contains curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. According to some studies, this spice also has positive effects on brain activity and could help fight chronic diseases, as well as cardiovascular issues.
- Cinnamon: it adds a warm and aromatic note to the drink, balancing the overall sweetness. Moreover, this ingredient is beneficial for those seeking support for their metabolism, regulating blood sugar levels, and promoting heart health.
- Ginger: a zesty kick to the Golden Milk, with digestive benefits, as it helps reduce nausea and bloating. I use freshly grated root, but ground ginger works great too. Finally, this spice has anti-inflammatory properties, making the beverage even more powerful and beneficial for the body.
- Black pepper: the compound called “piperine” contained in it is essential for enhancing curcumin, allowing the body to absorb it properly. Without it, the health benefits of turmeric may not be fully realized.

How to prepare turmeric latte
Put all the ingredients in a small pan and let them cook, stirring with a whisk. When you notice small bubbles on the surface, reduce the heat to low and continue cooking for about 10 minutes.

Once ready, use a strainer to filter the beverage before pouring it into a mug and drinking it hot.

My tips for cozy hot drink
- If possible, use fresh turmeric root instead of the powder, as it adds a stronger flavor and more depth.
- I use almond milk, but choose the plant-based milk of your choice or even regular cow milk.
- Honey is a common sweetener, but maple syrup or agave also works great.
